Day 1 Tuesday 21st May
Where East Meets West
You leave London Heathrow behind to travel to your historic destination of Sarajevo, where Turkish eastern influences combine with European western traditions to create a city like no other.
In the evening, you meet with Kathy Keary, Country Director for MAG’s work in Bosnia, who shows you the sights of this remarkable city and explains more about its chequered history. The effects of the recent conflict might remain on show, but you also witness the city’s courageous spirit. There’s more here than just battle scars.
Day 2 Wednesday 22nd May
Riding to Paradise
Approx 70km of cycling
You hit the road early, beginning your ride in the mountain village of Gornja Grkarica. Spending the day cycling through lush green landscapes, you eventually arrive at the serene Boracko Lake. Surrounded by dense forests, Boracko Lake is one of Bosnia’s greatest natural beauties. After a challenging and exhilarating start, you breathe in the pure air and experience an oasis of calm. First day of riding done.
Day 3 Thursday 23rd May
A pristine emerald green wonder
Approx 90km of cycling
The swampland of the Neretva River snakes alongside you as you cycle through the quaint towns of Konjic and Jablanica. Pause to look at each town’s historic bridge, watch local people selling their wares at the bustling market and experience the incredible beauty which surrounds you.
You push on towards Mostar, with its own medieval bridge, spending the night in the city. When the sun goes down and the town empties of tourists, experience the twinkling lights of the restaurants and homes in peace.
Day 4 Friday 24th May
Riding high to a warm welcome
Approx 90km of cycling
You earn those donations as you depart Mostar and cycle closer towards the west coast. The terrain is tough, but the highs are amazing. Day 4 also brings another perspective.
You stop for a well-earned mid-morning break to meet the brave and determined MAG deminers near the town of Rotimlja, and visit a minefield being cleared by MAG.
After chatting with the team and seeing first-hand how all of your hard work, training and fundraising will help to save lives, you hop back on your bike. Inspired and determined, you get back on the unbeaten track and pedal towards Ravno.
Day 5 Saturday 25th May
A Hero’s Welcome
Approx 57km of cycling
The end is in sight. On your final day, with jelly legs but no doubt feeling fresh and revitalised, you say goodbye to Bosnia and cycle over the border into neighbouring Croatia. For the last few kilometres, the jewel blue of the sea accompanies you.
Arriving into the coastal city of Dubrovnik to a hero’s welcome, you reflect on an incredible five days with your new friends. Maybe thinking about next year’s ride?
